May the longtime sun shine upon you,
all love surround you,
and the pure light within you
guide you all the way home.

Gracious God,
who made the covenant promise with our ancestors,
we gather here today a rebellious people.
We want to act out your intentions for us,
but we keep getting mixed up
by all the glitter of the world around us.
You tell us to honor creation,
and we use other people and animals and plant life
only to meet our wants.
You offer daily bread to every living creature,
and we steal that bread from our brothers and sisters
in the name of our greed.
You promise us new life,
and we shrink back from it in fear.
Heal us, God, lest we destroy ourselves.
We need your presence among us. Amen.

We wait in the darkness!
Come, all ye who listen,
Help in our night journey:
Now no sun is shining;
Now no star is glowing;
Come show us the pathway:
The night is not friendly;
The moon has forgot us,
We wait in the darkness!
– Iroquois prayer**

rosehips-in-winterLOOK AT OUR BROKENNESS
Look at our brokenness.
We know that in all creation
Only the human family
Has strayed from the Sacred Way.
We know that we are the ones
Who are divided
And we are the ones
Who must come back together
To walk in the Sacred Way.
Grandfather, Sacred One,
Teach us love, compassion, and honor
That we may heal the earth
And heal each other.
– Ojibway Prayer**

Send Thy peace, O Lord, which is perfect and everlasting,
that our souls may radiate peace.
Send Thy peace, O Lord, that we may think, act,
and speak harmoniously.
Send Thy peace, O Lord, that we may be contented
and thankful for Thy bountiful gifts.
Send Thy peace, O Lord, that amidst our worldly strife
we may enjoy thy bliss.
Send Thy peace, O Lord, that we may endure all,
tolerate all in the thought of thy grace and mercy.
Send Thy peace, O Lord, that our lives may become a
divine vision, and in Thy light all darkness may vanish.
Send Thy peace, O Lord, our Father and Mother, that we
Thy children on earth may all unite in one family.
– Sufi Prayer

O You, the almighty Sun, whose light clears away all clouds,
We take refuge in You, king of all men, God of all deities, Lord of all angels.
We pray You, dispel the mist of illusion from the hearts of the nations and lift their lives by Your all-sufficient power.
Pour upon them Your limitless love, Your ever-shining light, Your everlasting life, Your heavenly joy and Your perfect peace.
– Hazrat Inayat Khan

In the midst of hunger and war; we celebrate a vision of plenty and peace.
In the midst of oppression and tyranny; we celebrate a vision of liberation and freedom.
In the midst of doubt and despair; we celebrate a vision of faith and hope.
In the midst of fear and betrayal; we celebrate a vision of courage and steadfast love.
In the midst of hatred and death; we celebrate a vision of love and rebirth.
In the midst of death on every side; we celebrate God’s living Spirit
and in the presence of a troubled and fractured world; we celebrate the Holy One on whose sacred ground we walk, revealed in our midst this moment. Amen.
– adapted from the World Council of Churches “Celebration of Life” litany**

Now the old is being washed away; the tide of the future is rising
and the footprints of the past are disappearing.
Now our parent’s vision and the visions of our parent’s parents fade.
Where once mighty edifices stood, relentless and eternal waves now lap the shore.
What will remain? When all that is left is a blank tablet swept clean by time,
what fresh imprints will appear to mark the way?
Holy One, in prayer we lift our hearts to you this morning.
This gathering place is filled today with dreamers of dreams – young and old;
visions of hope, visions of beauty, hover in the air above us seeking form.
Words flow through our awareness seeking a voice.
Holy One, stir up your Spirit; move among us – that we may take action to bring our great visions to life; photo-5that our dreams may become visible in word and symbol; that we may speak those prophetic sentences – popular or unpopular – which need our voice or expression.
We claim today the power of each of our visions.
We claim today the divine spark that lies within us. We claim a partnership with you and pray for your light to surround us as we, with courage, take first steps toward the future.
Now the old is washed away; the tide of the future rises and the footprints of the past are disappearing.
What will remain? What will spring forth with new life?  What fresh imprints will appear to mark the way?
Give us eyes to see the distant shore, ears to hear the whisper of truth;
Give us voices to speak new words which spring from the Source Eternal;
give us hearts which overflow with your love. Amen.
